As superintendent of the Hilton Jacobs Projects, Thurgood Stubbs (Eddie Murphy) presides over the building's plumbing and maintenance problems with pride as his beloved wife, Muriel (Loretta Devine) stands loyally by his side in this 1999 comedy series about life in a Detroit public housing project.

Thurgood and Muriel don't have any children, but Thurgood gets a lot of practice by being a father figure to boys in the building like Calvin and Juicy.

Other residents in The PJs include Thurgood's chess buddy Sanchez, Muriel's sister Bebe Ho (Jenifer Lewis) and brother-in-law Jimmy Ho, Tarnell, the local supplier of miscellaneous goods, the crochety Mrs. Avery (Ja'net DuBois), and the building's resident Voodoo expert, Haiti Lady.

The PJs "claymation" series won three Emmy Awards during its run. It was created by Eddie Murphy, Larry Wilmore and Steve Tompkins and produced, in part, by Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment and Eddie Murphy Productions.
